Currently I live in San Antonio Texas, and I love this city. I have lived here for 16 years now. I often get asked what there is to do in San Antonio by people wanting to visit. So I decided to right all of my favorite things down and put it here on my website.

Riverwalk Area:

San Fernando Cathedral- till 5 PM. You can go inside and look around. It is voted one of the top 10 most gorgeous churches in Texas. In addition it is the oldest church in Texas. It was built in 1731. It is also where the remains of Travis, Bowie, and Crockett are. At 9:00pm Tuesday-Sunday, they have a laser light show. It shows projections on the front of the cathedral that goes through the history of San Antonio. Alamo- this is one of the missions in San Antonio. It is famous for the battle of Alamo. It is popularized by the saying, “Remember the Alamo”. RiverCenter Mall: (next to the Alamo) Holey Moley- putt putt, karaoke, and restaurant. 27 holes with fun themes Dave and Busters- Arcade and restaurant Legoland- great for ages 10 and under Sea Life Aquarium- great theming Boat Tour- located on the River level Ripley’s Believe it or Not- 4D theater, illusion lab, wax museum (which is better than the one in Vegas), odds and ends museum. Ghost Tour- I would recommend Sisters Grimm. They also have a bus tour. Escape Room- fun for large or small groups. Buckhorn Museum- similar to Ripley’s museum, however it has a lot of taxidermy. In addition there is a museum about the Texas Rangers. The Texas Ranger museum has an exhibit about Bonnie and Clyde that includes a replica or their car. Hop Scotch- an interactive art museum. It has an LED ball pit and a bar. Firehouse Museum- located near the Alamo. Under rated if you ask me La Villita- artists community area. A great place to buy a souvenir that is hand crafted. Brisco Western Art Museum- across the river from La Villita. It is a Western Art Museum El Mercado (Market Square)- Mexican Flee Market. Live music on Saturdays and Sundays San Antonio Museum of Art- classic and modern art

Bars/Taverns and Restaurants

(On the Riverwalk)

Esquire Bar and Tavern: oldest bar in Texas

Menger Bar, located in Menger Hotel- Where Teddy Roosevelt recruited Rough Riders. Dirty Nellys- a fun bar with a piano player. Hugman’s Oasis- a fun tiki bar

Elsewhere is a fun outdoor bar and grill located next to the SA Museum of Art. Great IPAs, tasty burgers, and delicious fried pickles. On Friday and Saturday nights they have acrobats and fire dancers.

Bohanna’s has the best steak

Biggs on the Banks has the best seafood

Boudro’s is my favorite restaurant on the Riverwalk.

When it comes to Mexican restaurants I have 5 (6 if you count my honorable mention) that I recommend. Based on Historic, Popular, Budget, Upscale, Hole in the Wall, and Most Unique.

Historic- Casa Rio. Despite on new dam being put in place after a major flood, many people were afraid to open a business on the river. Casa Rio was the first to take a chance. Casa Rio is also known for their mariachi players.

Popular- Mi Tierra. Mi Tierra is located at the Market Square. In addition to being a restaurant, it is also a bakery.

Budget- Pablano’s. Located near the Majestic on Houston St. The fajitas and the taco salad are both very good. So are the margaritas. This place is good without breaking the bank

Upscale- Acenar. Located on Houston st. They have table side guacamole. They offer a wide range of different items. They are a bit pricey though. 2 people could easily cost $80-$100.

My honorable mention is also in this category. Carriqui. Carriqui is located at The Pearl. They have a slightly different menu than other Mexican restaurants because they feature a different region. Their menu follows along the migrational path of the Carriqui bird.

Hole in the Wall- Pete’s TaKo House. A place locals know.

Unique- Casa Catrina. Located at La Villita. A Day of the Dead themed restaurant with delicious food and a revolving menu

Downtown Area:

Old Trolley Tour- I highly recommend. It is narrated and it will take you to many of those places. A single day ticket is actually for the day you buy it and the following day.

The Pearl Brewery- boutique shopping area with great restaurants.

Jazz Tx- a speak easy jazz club located under the food court at the Pearl.

Hotel Emma- absolutely beautiful, stop in to get a drink.

The Grotto- located on the Riverwalk near the Pearl Brewery. It is a waterfall that you can walk behind. Look closely at the rock…. There is a face craved in it.

Tower of America- space needle, great view of San Antonio. Has a restaurant called Chart House. Pricey, however they also have a great happy hour with great prices. There is a fantastic park (free) near the tower in Hemisphere Park called Yanaguana Garden. It has a beach like area with sand, Splash pad, and more. Near by if a great coffee house called Commonwealth Bakery.

Botanical Gardens- beautiful area, right now it is orchard season Zoo- currently our zoo has a lot of construction ready, as they are preparing to get Gorillas this summer. However, there is still a lot to love. They offer several animal encounters for an additional cost, including my favorite… petting kangaroos.

Japanese Tea Garden- located right next to the zoo. Free to see.

Witte Museum- a Natural history museum in the same area as the zoo, near Breckenridge park.

Across the street from Witte, is my favorite BBQ restaurant… Smoke Shack

Doseum- a fun children’s museum, great for ages 10 and under.

A Bit of a Drive from Downtown:

Natural Bridge Caverns- located in Comal County, near New Braunfels.

Wild Life- a drive through safari located next to the caverns

Snake Farm- more than just snakes. Lots of animal encounters (extra fee) such as a fennec fox, pet goats, and more.

Burnt Bean-recently voted best BBQ in Texas.

Additional Missions: The Hike & Bike Trail along the San Antonio River connects all five missions in San Antonio: The Alamo, Mission Concepcion, Mission San Jose, Mission San Juan, and Mission Espada. Each mission is about 2.5 miles from the next. This is a safe and fun way to visit the missions. You can rent an E-bike to ride on the trail. San Jose is the largest of the missions. It has a visitor center, gift shop, and offers free guided tours.

Fredericksburg- a quaint small town. Known for wineries. Try Hill Country Detours for personal tours. They will pick you up. Main Street is really cute. Stop by Rustling Rob’s for salsas, hot sauces and Jams. LBJ state park. There is an 19th century working farm there. It has sheep and lambs running around. Adorable! My favorite restaurant in Fredericksburg in Cabinet Grill. There is a karaoke bar called Velvet Lounge, which was so much fun!

Gruene- (pronounced Green) Gruene Dance Hall is where George Strait got his start. Stop by Rias Ice Cream, try the goat cheese raspberry flavor. It tastes like cheesecake.

Amusement Parks

Sea World- has four coasters. Journey to Atlantis, Steel Eel, Texas Stingray, and Wave Breaker: The Rescue Coaster. The sea life animal shows now focus on education of the animals. Discovery Cove is included with your ticket, that is where the dolphins are. The walk around Sea Word is about 5 miles long.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas- six flags has 39 attractions including 12 coasters. In addition they have several shows.

(Located near Six Flags)

Andretti Karting- indoor go carts, arcade, and laser tag

Top Golf

IFly- indoor skydiving

Morgan’s Wonderland- a fantastic park the is known to be inclusive. No matter if a person has a disability or not, everyone can have fun.
